ATSSA and The Foundation:
Working Together to Make
Zero Deaths a Reality.
Host the National Work Zone Memorial
Host the National Work Zone Memorial to increase roadway safety awareness at an
upcoming event. ATSSA members and chapters, state departments of transportation and
industry leaders are encouraged to showcase the Memorial at meetings and other functions.
Unveiled in April 2002, The National Work Zone Memorial—Respect and Remembrance:
Reflections of Life on the Road is a tribute to the memory of lives lost in work zones. It
makes fatalities “real” to policymakers and drivers as it travels to communities across the
country throughout the year to raise public awareness of the need to respect and stay safe in
America’s roadway work zones.
The Foundation hopes it will be a reminder of its mission, “Toward Zero Names,” meaning
there will be no further names added to the Memorial.

Roadway Worker Memorial Scholarship Program
The Foundation, which provides scholarships to the loved ones of fallen workers,
has a goal of “Toward Zero Scholarships”—reducing the number of work zone
deaths until there are zero fatalities and, as a result, zero scholarships.
Scholarships provide financial assistance for post-high school education to
dependents of roadway workers killed or permanently disabled in roadway work
zones. The Foundation will help ensure their dependents’ academic dreams will
continue. Scholarships have a value of up to $5,000. Applicants who demonstrate a
strong commitment to volunteerism may be eligible to receive an additional $1,000
in honor of Chuck Bailey, an esteemed member of the roadway safety industry who
passed away in 2002.
Eligible applicants can apply for the Roadway Worker Memorial Scholarship by
the deadline of February 15, 2015 (applications must be postmarked before this date).
