ATSSA Annual Legislative
Briefing & Fly-In
ATSSA’s government relations team hosts a Legislative Briefing & Fly-In on Capitol Hill
in Washington, D.C., each spring. This year’s two-day conference, which offers a unique
opportunity for members around the country to gather in the nation’s capital and advocate
for the growth of the roadway safety industry, is April 28–29, 2015.
Supplemented by effective training to better present issues, attendees will have the chance to
meet with legislators and network with fellow industry leaders in transportation. It is especially
important to build relationships with key decision makers in Congress at this year’s Fly-In,
because the current federal aid highway authorization will expire at the end of May 2015. ATSSA
encourages members to make their voices heard during the event in order to ensure that roadway
safety infrastructure remains a priority in Washington, D.C., to work “Toward Zero Deaths.”
Highway Bill Update
The Highway Trust Fund (HTF)
continues to face a stall in any
progress toward long-term surface
transportation reform. The clock is
ticking on funding for the HTF,
which is expected to run dry after
May 31, 2015. The hope is that the
House and Senate will convene and
seriously address proposals to fund
a long-term highway bill. In the
meantime, ATSSA’s government
relations team is working to meet
with Congressional members and
their staffs in Washington, D.C., to
stress the fact that there is still more
work to be done on the HTF. With
May 2015 just around the corner, the
job needs to be done for the sake of
the nation’s transportation and
infrastructure.
Congressional Site Visit
to ATSSA Member Companies
ATSSA Member, Beth’s Barricades, Hosts Rep. Scott Perry
ATSSA member company, Beth’s Barricades, hosted U.S. Representative Scott Perry (R–Pa)
at the company’s facility in York, Pa., on October 9, 2014. During his tour of the facility, Perry
talked with employees about their shared experiences of running a business and discussed his
activities on Capitol Hill and the hope of having a long-term transportation bill. As a member
of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, Perry has been a great resource to
ATSSA and its members with his continued engagement on safety and transportation policy in
Congress. Beth’s Barricades is the second ATSSA member company Perry has visited during
his time in office.
