ON THE COVER,
you’ll see some of our elected board
members for 2016–2017. If you hadn’t noticed, this is just
one of the many changes we’ve had at OTA over the last year.
We’ve added some new full and part time employees to
provide better service, develop new programs, and offer new
content to all our members. Feedback on our new website
and database that we launched this summer has been
positive. It’s more user intuitive and easier to keep member
and event information as current as possible. Also this
summer, the OTA office underwent a makeover with new
paint, carpet, some furniture, a TV with a computer hookup
for the conference room, and an upgraded phone system to
better accommodate visitors and help us with communication.
Similar to years in the past, the Safety Conference and
Leadership Convention were again divided into separate
events, and it was great to see the high number of
attendees for these two very different events. We created
two new committees, the Allied and Image Committees to
help our members engage with each other and increase
public awareness and appreciation for trucking. OTA
launched an exclusive Northwest Fleet Safety Certification
Program and received a grant from Oregon OSHA to offer
OSHA Awareness classes across the state.
That sounds like a lot, but just wait until 2017! Looking
forward, we’re planning to develop additional regulatory
compliance courses, continue with the Northwest Fleet
Safety program, and offer leadership/management classes
through partners like Impact Training Solutions. We’ve set
dates for all our annual events, but we really want to focus
more attention and media presence at events like the
Truck Driving Championship to showcase safety and our
drivers’ skills. As part of our positive image agenda, we
urge everyone to attend our Trucking Day at the Capitol
event and help promote our industry! If you have any
content, including trucking videos you’d like to share with
us, please tag us on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn or
send them to us directly so we can post them for everyone
to see—members and the public.
It’ll be a busy year for our government affairs team, so we’ll
be heavily involved in the full-term legislative session. There
will be some new sponsorship and advertising opportunities
for members at events and other communication platforms,
such as our website, e-newsletter, and printed publications.
Also, keep an eye out for our 2017 printed directory.
Although, it’s been a challenge collecting up-to-date data
from all our members, we finally have it organized and are
ready to launch. Last, but probably most importantly, our
goal is to increase our membership and participation of
members. The more of us there are and the more we’re
involved, the more power we have as a group to voice our
opinion and make an impact! If you know someone that
should be a member, let us know! If they join, you’ll get a
$25 OTA credit towards dues or classes.
It’s been a lot of hard work, but we know it’s for the
benefit of our members and the trucking industry as a
whole. We hope you are as excited as we are for all the
positive changes to come in the upcoming year. Happy
Holidays and Happy New Year!
