ACCOMPLISHMENTS
REPORT
2014
It has been a rewarding year. In 2014, we saw the chapter network grow to 24 chapters (three new chapters)
representing 37 states and Washington, D.C., along with a significant increase in member active participation
in the chapter meetings and events. The Member Services team attended 80 chapter meetings in 2014.
Our primary focus in 2014 was to increase public agency
memberships with ATSSA’s “Connect the DOTs” program, and it
has resulted in more than tripling the number of public agency
group members. We now have public agency representation in 48
of 50 states, including universities.
Doors have been opened that resulted in tremendous partnering
and support opportunities with counties, state departments of
transportation, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
(FMCSA) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
ATSSA is developing and supporting new federal-state innovation
partnerships as part of the FHWA’s Every Day Counts (EDC) program
through Chapter members’ participation with numerous State
Technology Implementation Council teams (STIC). As a result, we
are able to schedule more industry-specific FHWA and FMCSA
presentations at chapter meetings.
My staff’s primary focus for 2015 will shift to engaging, growing and retaining our full member “contractor”
memberships. We will be working hard again this year to provide additional venues to bring to the table
industry, agency and research representatives to work together to develop and implement industry best
practices and offer “who’s who” networking and connection opportunities. The chapter meetings will
continue to develop into industry “can’t miss” events, where members will be proud to invite guests.
These meetings will help facilitate our membership growth at the chapter and national levels.
Be proud of the jobs and tasks you do. I’m often asked what motivates me. When I get up in the morning, I
tell myself that what I will do today at work may save somebody’s life. I’m not on the “front lines” where many
of our members are, but each of us plays a significant part in our core purpose: to advance roadway safety.
Every day that our members get up and go to work saves lives as we continue to move “Toward Zero Deaths.”
Your comments and questions are always welcome. If you can provide suggestions about how we, at ATSSA, can
more effectively serve the members, chapters and committees, please share your ideas with me.

ATSSA launched its first Leadership
Program at the Courtyard by Marriott in
Fredericksburg, Va., March 29–April 1.
The 15 participants successfully completed
the three-day course designed to help them
understand different leadership styles,
discover their personal styles through a
consultant-facilitated model and fully develop
their own leadership potential. Because of
popular demand, the Leadership Program is,
again, being offered in April 2015.
