Winter 2017
The American Hotel & Lodging Association worked with STR to conduct
the 2016 Lodging Survey to ask members what they see on the horizon for
2017. More than 8,000 hotels responded to give a peak into the emerging or
continuing trends. The top results included in-room technologies, more onsite
dining options, holding the line of resort fees, and adding guest conveniences
like using mobile apps for hotel check-in.
Deanna Ting of travel insight juggernaut Skift predicts co-everything will be the
next big thing in hospitality, with the tenets of “co-living”—that emphasis on
collaboration and community—permeating much of the hotel guest experience
in 2017. This goes for everything from hotel design to guests’ experiences
beyond the hotel to thinking about the hotel’s role in the local community.
