23 www.ortrucking.org Issue 4 | 2018 ONE OF THE BENEFITS of being an OTA member is the opportunity to get involved, meet others in the industry, and share best practices through our seven committees. Committees typically meet biannually and recently gathered at our Annual Convention in Sunriver this past September where we generated an abundance of ideas to grow our association and move our industry forward. Here’s an overview of each. IMAGE Works on projects and provides recommendations related to advancing the image of the trucking industry to the public, decision-makers, and other trucking industry members. chair: Mike Card, Combined Transport Image Award: The Committee presented Tradewinds Transportation with the first ever Image Award for the company’s dedication to health & wellness for employees and the community, volunteerism and donations to local community groups, charities, green efforts, and more. Applications for the next image award will be available early in 2019. How you can help: ` ` Do you have any media contacts? Let us know so we can add them to our email list or invite them to one of our events! ` ` Do you know of a trucking company or individual in the industry that has made a positive impact on the community? Share their stories! OTA is always working to promote the image of trucking via press releases, social media, and our publications. Committee Updates MEMBERSHIP Focused on finding and implementing ways to generate new membership and also increase engagement and participation of existing OTA members. chair: Heather Hayes, Tradewinds Transportation How you can help: ` ` Do you know a member who isn’t really involved? Invite them to the next OTA event (such as the Southern Oregon Mixer) so they can learn about our services and about why their participation makes all the difference in promoting Oregon’s trucking industry. ` ` Are there trucking industry members you know that aren’t members with us yet? The best way to recruit new members is word of mouth. GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS Analyzes current and proposed policies, defines top priorities for the industry, and provides advice on how to approach issues on behalf of our trucking members. chair: Evan Oneto, FedEx How you can help: ` ` Attend an upcoming meeting to share your ideas and to stay current with our legislative agenda. ` ` Show your support for the industry at our Trucking Day at the Capitol event on January 29 in Salem. ALLIED Helps allied members strategize ways to effectively message to and connect with carrier members chair: Trevin Fountain, Cummins Sales and Service How you can help: ` ` Do you know an allied company that isn’t an OTA member? Recruit them to join our association. ` ` Are you a carrier member? Help support and build relationships with our allied members; they help support the industry and OTA events. OTA IN ACTION Serves as OTA’s grassroots arm by connecting trucking industry members with key legislators and policy makers. Through ongoing relationships with these policy makers, our members can provide valuable information and support beneficial policies for the industry. chair: Mark Gibson, Siskiyou Transportation, Inc. How you can help: ` ` Do you want to get involved? Contact us and let us know which district you live in. ` ` Do you know a state senator or representative or other elected official? Let us know! We can work with you to set up an informal meeting or invite them to attend an upcoming OTA event. HIGHWAY POLICY Collaborates with industry members and regulators to improve how freight is moved on Oregon highways. This includes freight mobility issues, traffic control, and the regulation of over-dimension loads. chair: Erik Zander, Omega Morgan How you can help: ` ` Do you face obstacles when moving freight through the state? If so, bring your concerns and ideas for improvement to our next meeting. TRUCK PAC Evaluates legislative candidates based on their willingness to work with the trucking industry on issues that directly impact the industry and provides funding endorsements. chair: Dale Lemmons, Interstate Wood Products Inc. How you can help: ` ` Send a check to the Truck PAC, include a donation with your membership dues, or contribute a minimum of $1,000/year to join our Leadership Circle (it may qualify for Oregon’s Political Tax Credit). ` ` Contact us for more information about the PAC.  Please contact info@ortrucking.org if you are interested in getting involved in any of the committees.
