Mississippi Associated Builders and Contractors
The Mississippi ABC
The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), Inc. is a national, non-profit con-
struction trade association. It is the only association of its kind that unites and
serves all building trades. The Mississippi Associated Builders and Contractors,
Inc. evolved from the former, locally-organized Mississippi General Contractors
Association, founded in 1961. Contractors in Mississippi were attracted to ABC
in 1973 by its basic belief in the free enterprise system. Currently MABC is the
largest ABC chapter in the nation.
ABC supports the Merit Shop philosophy, believing in free enterprise and the
freedom of choice for all employees. It is ABC’s firm belief that all employers
should have the right to determine wages and working conditions as they
choose. According to the Merit Shop philosophy, an employee’s compensation
for production should be based upon the merits of his production. Through
the Merit Shop philosophy, ABC also protects the contractor’s right to man-
age. The principles upon which ABC was founded protect both contractors
and employees in the mutual benefit of the construction industry and the
client.
ABC is the fastest-growing construction trade association in America, oper-
ating through 22,000 nationwide member firms. The Mississippi Chapter of
ABC is the largest trade association of its kind in the state, setting standards
for the industry in its attempt to promote a fair and profitable business way
of life.
