ANA\C The Nursing Voice Summer 2019

anacalifornia.org  .  7 Nursing Education Director Welcome By Robyn Nelson, PhD. MSN, RN—Nursing Education Director; Dean, West Coast University ANA\C is all about quality— quality care, quality nurses, a quality profession and ensuring a quality experience for the patients we serve. I look forward as the Nursing Education Director to advancing the ANA\C agenda as it relates to quality nurses! With decades of experience in nursing education, leadership in both public and private universities, and a strong foundation in interprofessional education, I will continue to focus on sup- porting full practice authority of RNs in conjunction with APRN educators and students. Consistent with California Association of Colleges of Nursing, I advocate promoting partnerships to advance academic progression and preparing expert clinicians to be competent educators through continuing education avenues. With a passion for community-based practice, I will advocate for undergraduate curriculum revisions to ensure new nurses are able to meet the needs of patients throughout the care continuum. The Board of Directors brings a wealth of experience and influence to ANA\C, and together we will ensure that our voice is articulate and strong when informing decision-makers. I always tell my students at pinning that they are the future of healthcare—the glue—and someone said nurses are like stem cells—stem cells regenerate and repair diseased or damaged cells. Sounds like a nurse to me and sounds like ANA\C! Recently, I heard the song For Good from Wicked, and was reminded that every day “people come into our lives for a reason, bringing something we must learn.” I believe life is full of challenges and opportunities rather than threats and harm and I will bring strong leadership to turn these challenges and opportunities into great successes. I know I will “have been changed for good” as a result of working together on behalf of the profession to advance quality healthcare. The Board wishes to be a resource to members—available to support and mentor. I welcome your emails both for suggestions and to further the Board’s connection with membership.
