6  . The Nursing Voice . Summer 2019 A Letter from the Vice President By Philip M. Bautista, BSN, RN, PHN—Vice President Membership Director Welcome By Janette V. Moreno, DNP, RN, CCRN-K, NEA-BC—Membership Director The past two years have afforded me the privilege and honor of serving as President of ANA\California. During that time, the association grew in the following key areas: Self-sufficiency Retention of all services for members within the state Advocacy for all California Registered Nurses Membership growth by over 30% These milestones would not have been possible without the amazing support of our Board of Directors and the many members who served as advocates and supported the associa- tion through our advocacy activities. I am truly excited to be elected as the mem- bership director of the ANA\California. This is such a great opportunity to influence, develop, and engage our ANA\C members in enhancing the health and well-being of Californians and advance the profession of nursing. As we continue to grow and ex- pand our membership, I am excited to work on fulfilling the vision and mission through a three-pronged approach: Partnership and collaboration; Visibility and accessibility; and Mentorship and professional development. It is important for me to partner and collaborate with ANA\C lead- ership as well as other nursing professional organizations such as Association of California Nurse Leaders (ACNL), California Association of Colleges of Nursing (CACN), California Organization of Association Degree in Nursing (COADN) and other nursing professional organi- zations. Not only are we stronger together, but we are also more likely to get our message across to healthcare policy makers, as nurses take the lead in advancing the health of individuals, families, patients, and communities. We would like ANA to be every California nurse’s top choice in pro- fessional organization membership. Membership with ANA provides Being fortunate to be re-elected for the final term on the Board of Directors, I set my sights on changing the way we conduct our General Assembly, as well as advancing the advocacy agenda within our association. Specifically, I aim to create a General Assembly that serves the business function of the association, as well as advance our advocacy across the continuum of care to a new level. I hope to leverage the enthusiasm of our new graduates who are eager to learn more about their advocacy role post licensure, by engaging experienced career nursing advocates as mentors and to under- stand the value and power of our voice in transforming patient care through individual and collaborative empowerment. On reflection, I appreciate the feedback received from so many of you. It has been a blessing to have colleagues and other nursing leaders collaborate to advance the profession. This is a profession that truly takes a village, and with strong leadership values and the virtu- ous mission to care for our patients, we are absolutely moving the needle in California! Thank you all, as always, for your membership and involvement with the care of healthcare consumers in our state. Contact Phillip— vicepresident@anacalifornia.org access to thousands of products and services, which includes but not limited to, education, professional practice, legislation and advo- cacy. Visibility and accessibility to these products and services are important strategic efforts that the ANA\C leadership will be working on. The most recent RN day at the Capitol filled up in less than four weeks. We would like to hold more opportunities like this to engage our members in legislation and advocacy. We also would like to hold in-person Board meetings in different California locations for easy access to our membership. We also plan to engage our members by providing a social media platform for open discussions on healthcare issues that matter most. Our efforts in serving our membership and the community will focus on preparing the future generation of nurse leaders through men- torship and professional development. We would like to strengthen our partnership among key regional ANA\C members by mentoring them to lead local taskforces that would focus on legislation, advo- cacy, professional practice standards, diversity, inclusion, well-being and resilience. I want to extend my deepest appreciation to our membership for this opportunity to serve you as the ANA\C Membership Director.
