Featured Article PLSO Scholarships The Scholarship Committee reviewed scholarship applications in June. There were a number of qualified applicants and it was inspiring to read their applications. The Sue Newstetter Memorial Scholarship was established by the PLSO Board to promote women pursuing a career in surveying or other applicants pursuing a surveying career in rural communities. Sue Newstetter Memorial Scholarship This year’s recipient of the Sue Newstetter Memorial Scholarship is Dana Londen. Dana will be graduating from Oregon In- stitute of Technology in the spring of 2020 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Surveying Technology/Surveying. Dana served six years in the Navy as a combat naval air crewman. After discharging from the Navy, she began to pursue a degree in nurs- ing but after a few years switched to OIT to pursue surveying. Dana serves as the Treasurer of the Geomatics Club at OIT and also serves on the Student Hearing Committee and Diversity Committee. In addition, Dana volunteers her time to as- sist veterans finding scholarship opportunities and housing. She is currently maintaining a 4.0 GPA at OIT. Charles Guiles Scholarship This year’s recipient of the PLSO Charles Guiles Scholarship is Isaac Jacoben. Isaac will be graduating from Oregon Institute of Technology in spring of 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Surveying Engineering. Isaac has completed missionary work in Mexico, is actively involved in his church, and has worked with the Oregon Department of Transportation as a surveying intern. Isaac is currently maintaining a 3.71 GPA at OIT. He plans to return to his hometown of Roseburg after graduation to pursue his four years of experience to qualify for his professional survey license with a long term goal of starting his own surveying business. 8 The Oregon Surveyor  | Vol. 42, No. 4
