Oregon Truck Dispatch SMC Safety Management Council Making Safety Possible S afety is one of the common threads that run throughout the trucking industry, from the more obvious goal of drivers operating safely on the roads, to ensuring that companies have educated personnel in place to help implement the wide-ranging rules and regulations that govern the industry. But, how does that translate when it comes to OTA? Simply put: The Safety Management Council. On the national level, the Safety Management Council (SMC) is the only organization dedicated to advancing safe policies, practices, and technology; and effective risk management and accident/injury prevention in the trucking industry. SMC also addresses trucking’s unique human resource challenges, health and wellness issues, as well as recruitment and retention strategies. On the local level, SMC is actively engaged with producing safety-focused events around Oregon. Meetings that cover the topics and areas of concern to the trucking industry are held quarterly, giving attendees frequent access to the latest information and the opportunity to get answers to their questions. Beyond that, SMC supports two annual events that put safety in the spotlight—the Spring Safety Conference and the Oregon Truck Driving Championship (TDC). The SMC is made possible because of the individuals who volunteer their time, offer up their knowledge and expertise, and just simply get involved!
