MAPA 2019 Membership Directory 4 HISTORY & WHY JOIN MAPA History & Mission FOUNDED TO PROMOTE QUALITY & ACCOUNTABILITY MAPA was founded in 1990 as an association to represent the asphalt producers in the state of Missouri. MAPA was born in an environment in which representation was weak but our product, asphalt, was strong. Contractors recognized the need for an Association to represent them collectively. The Association was to serve as a third party working to promote quality work and accountability. Throughout the years, the functions of the Association have morphed with the ever changing business environment. While our core purpose is still to represent quality asphalt contractors and work, our strategy has broadened. MAPA’s primary functions are to maintain commitment to the industry. PROMOTING & EDUCATION We work to ensure that our members are committed to the quality of construction and work with the Missouri Highway and Transportation Department, counties, cities, towns, and developers to aid in developing and maintaining quality specifications. In our efforts to produce and place quality asphalt, we actively promote the use of asphalt to municipalities, architects, engineers, landowners, and government entities. Such promotion in turn provides information and education. Why Join? FOCUSING OUR EFFORTS All these efforts combine to create a strong Association diligently working to expand the asphalt network. We continually: • Seek to dispel misconceptions associated with asphalt • Work to educate decision makers about the cost benefits • Develop materials to teach consumers why asphalt is the most viable pavement option • Work with contractors to remain on the cutting edge of industry developments • Work to inform all parties of factors that impact our industry The Missouri Asphalt Pavement Association represents the finest asphalt contractors, producers, and suppliers in the state of Missouri. Our Association actively works to promote the use of asphalt through a variety of channels including educational materials, both print and online, onsite visits, aggressive marketing, regional meetings, conferences, and training events. We offer our members access to the latest technical information and process changes, we create opportunities for members to exchange ideas and innovations in a face-to- face setting, we work to foster greater core service development, and seek to continually educate our members. In addition to the learning opportunities, we create countless opportunities for networking and increased visibility through our website. All of this is offered to members at very competitive dues.
