Summer 2018

2 HCAOA The Voice EXECUTIVE CORNER Shining A Light on More Great Things to Come AS WE APPROACH THE SUMMER MONTHS, we look forward to the longer days, warmer weather, and backyard barbeques that come with the season. At HCAOA, the longer days of summer take on a different meaning, as staff works diligently to finalize plans for the 2018 HCAOA Annual Leadership Conference that will be held in our backyard at the official end of summer, September 22–25, at the Marriot Wardman Park Hotel. Registration is now open. It is especially important that members make an effort to attend the annual leadership conference this year to participate in the Annual Leadership Confer- ence Congressional Lobby Day. This year’s theme, The Voice of Home Care for American Families: Advocating for Our Seniors, will focus on the importance of being an advocate on behalf of your clients and their families. Attendees will receive education and instruction on how to improve their advocacy skills and put those tactics into use on Capitol Hill! Please see details in this issue. We hope to see you there! Since our last issue of The Voice, HCAOA continues to address issues of concern and initiated a number of activities. In April, the HCAOA Board of Directors and Strategy Committee held a meeting at the HCAOA Headquarters to discuss an outline for a new three-year strategic plan covering 2019 through 2021. We will be sharing details in the coming months and intend to have a final plan announced at the Annual Leadership Conference. In other news, one specific area of need for our members is the opportunity to provide health care benefits to attract and retain caregivers in a tight labor market. The Department of Labor (DOL) just released final regulations to expand access to Association Health Plans (AHPs) which would allow associations like HCAOA to sponsor large group health plans. HCAOA is reviewing the final rule and considering the opportunity to offer a health care benefits plan to members. In the meantime, HCAOA is pursuing a vision and dental care benefits plan so that HCAOA members can offer this type of benefit plan to their caregivers as we consider options under the AHP Rule. Please stay tuned for further information on this development. In This Issue Highlighted in this technology issue of The Voice is a feature article, “Winning in Our Hyper-Competitive Market,” that discusses how leading home care innovators are leveraging technology to standardize best practices in pipeline optimization. In our second feature article, “Navigating Third Party Credentialing Systems,” we take a look at the legal implications of how assisted living facilities have increasingly turned to third-party credentialing services utilizing new technologies to review and approve the licensures and other creden- tials of home care providers and other entities entering their facilities and working directly with their residents. The articles look at the application of technology from diverse perspectives and the varying impact on your business operations. HCAOA Caregiver of the Year Award and Faces of Caregiving Campaign The HCAOA Caregiver of the Year Award nomination process is now open and we encourage you to nominate a member of your staff to be considered for this award! The award will be presented at the Annual Business Meeting during the Annual Leadership Conference. As part of the nom- ination process, you can elect to consider your nominee to be featured in the HCAOA Faces of Caregiving campaign. Safe Home Care Initiative HCAOA is preparing to launch a new educational and awareness resource—the Safe Home Care Initiative—to better inform consumers of home care services, and those professionals referring these services, to equip them to make informed decisions on what is in the best interest of the care recipient and his or her family. The Safe Home Care Initiative will aim to raise awareness about the importance of choosing the right home care provider. Please see more information in this issue. 2018 Annual Leadership Conference Registration is Now Open Click here to register today!
