8 CALIFORNIA LODGING NEWS www.calodging.com Rosalba Gutierrez HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A HOUSEKEEPER AT THE HYATT SACRAMENTO? 29 years! The hotel opened April 6, 1988 and I joined November 29, 1988. 2018 will be our 30th Anniversary! WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF BEING A HOUSEKEEPER? Cleaning rooms. I think I was born for this job. I love the Hyatt. It is my favorite place, it is my second home. My job is all about the guest. Every room I clean is important, whether for a VIP or a regular guest. They pay good money for their room and they expect it clean, especially the bathrooms and the bed. WHAT ARE THE IMPORTANT SKILLS AND TRAITS FOR SOMEONE WORKING IN HOUSEKEEPING TO HAVE? 1. Concern for guests. 2. Having pride in your work. 3. Understanding that it’s a hard job, it’s not just about earning money. WHAT IS A TYPICAL WORK DAY LIKE FOR YOU? Busy! This hotel is busy almost every day, whether with stayovers or check outs. Some people think check outs are harder, but I like them because I go in the room and get the job done. It’s a sense of completion. Stayovers vary by guest. Some want things done for them, other do not. Using Rex (the hand held device that tells them what rooms to clean) makes my job easier. It helps me organize my day. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN ENTERING THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY? It’s all about attitude. We are here to make the guest happy. We want them to feel welcome. It may be something as simple as helping them open the door to their room or saying hello in the hallway. The guests are most important.  Housekeeper, Hyatt Regency Sacramento HOTELIER PROFILE
