ATSSA Signal March/April 2019

The Signal | Mar/Apr 2019 41 Chapter News The Rocky Mountain Chapter of ATSSA met on Nov. 7, 2018, at the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) in Denver, Colorado. There were 27 people in attendance, in- cluding representatives from CDOT, City of Boulder, Doug- las County, and the City of Fort Collins. Guest speakers, Charles Meyers and Natasha Crayton from CDOT, provided an update on the work group that has been formed to address the roles of traffic control supervisors and flaggers. The work group is comprised of representa- tives from the chapter, Colorado Contractors Association, and other external industry partners with the goal of devel- oping a career path that would attract and retain qualified workers within the traffic control industry. Thus far, it has been determined that a more experienced flagger is needed on some jobs and in this instance there might be a use for ATSSA’s traffic control technician training, which is not currently required in Colorado. Jessica Scheyder, ATSSA’s director of training, agreed to share the traffic control tech- nician curriculum with CDOT as they continue to determine the best path in providing quality safety training for employees. Chapter members elected Shawn Severin as president-elect, and Joe Brandt, Rick Brown, Luann Leiding and Chad Palmer as directors to serve the chapter. Ted Ott was thanked for his service as chapter president for the past two years, and will continue serving on the board as immediate past pres- ident. Shane Tisdall assumed the role of president beginning November 2018 through 2020.
