The Signal | Sept/Oct 2018 41 Chapter News Arizona Chapter Chapter News ATSSA chapters met across the United States to discuss area and industry initiatives. ATSSA staff participated in numerous chap- ter meetings to update members on the association’s initiatives including ATSSA’s State Government Relations program, The Foundation programs and upcoming events, such as ATSSA’s Legislative Briefing & Fly-in and National Work Zone Awareness Week. Visit www.atssa.com/Chapters for more information. The Arizona ATSSA chapter met at the Arizona Department of Trans- portation (ADOT) in Phoenix on June 19. There were 25 people in attendance. Juan Arvizu of Pavement Marking Inc., spoke about the purpose of ATSSA and his current role as Chairman of ATSSA’s Board. Arvizu reminded members that ATSSA is essentially their company’s lob- byist, working to secure funding for roadway safety programs. He encouraged members to get involved at the state and national level. Arvizu also said ATSSA needs younger members to get involved because they will be the face of the association in the future. Pavement marking updates were provided by ADOT’s state traffic engineer Bashir Hassan. There will be changes made to the current 708 specification for permanent pavement markings. Members will be asked to provide feedback on the proposal and the chapter will form a task force to provide industry comment. New Board members and officers were announced as follows: Jesus Nunez, President-Elect; Carlos De La Vara, Director; John Ledbetter, Jr, Director; Billy Montgomery, Director; and Jay Thorpe, Secretary.
