National Work Zone Memorial lists names of individuals killed in work zones The Foundation’s National Work Zone Memorial has made eight stops across the United States in the first six months of 2018. Over the past year, the memorial has made its way across the country, recent- ly being hosted by DBi Services for their AMBU Virginia Annual Training event in Richmond, Virginia, and by the Califor- nia Chapter of ATSSA and the California Transportation Department (CalTrans) in Sacramento for the CalTrans Fallen Workers Memorial event. The memorial also made an appearance at the kick-off event for National Work Zone Awareness Week in Chicago, Illi- nois, hosted by the Illinois Chapter of ATSSA and the Illinois Department of Transportation. The memorial added 12 names to the display in 2018, and now features a to- tal of 1,455 names. “The National Work Zone Memorial is an important tribute to honor those who have lost their lives in roadway work zones,” said The Foundation President TomWood. “It serves as a reminder that roadway workers face great dangers out on our nation’s roads and all roadway users need to respect the efforts and work of those industry professionals. The Foundation has many programs to assist roadway workers and their fami- lies and encourages ATSSA member companies and public agencies to host this powerful display to raise awareness of work zone safety.” Earlier this year the memorial was fea- tured at five other events: ATSSA’s 48th Annual Convention & Traffic Expo in San Antonio, Texas; the 2018 Auburn Trans- portation Conference in Montgomery, Alabama; the 2018 Louisiana Transpor- tation Conference in Baton Rouge, Lou- isiana; and the 2018 Press Conference Vermont Transportation in Montpelier, Vermont. The National Work Zone Memorial can be utilized by ATSSA members at events across the country as a way to increase roadway safety awareness and honor those lost in roadway work zone crash- es. The Foundation encourages ATSSA members, ATSSA chapters, state trans- portation departments, and industry leaders to host the memorial at indus- try events.
