Spring 2018

www.wvfa.org Spring 2018 |  West Virginia Forestry Association Mountain State Forestry 5 W elcome to the spring edition of the Mountain State Forestry by WVFA. As I write, the legislature is about mid-session and your elected representatives appear to maintain their focus on improving the business climate in our state. WVFA has finalized all plans for the 2018 AB Brooks Symposium and registration has exceeded our expectations. Looking ahead, WVFA staff is busy planning for the upcoming summer conference which will be held at the Canaan Valley Resort & Conference Center. A site that has become home to this event for several decades of family fun and industry education. The WVFA Board of Directors have been instrumental in making this event our premier event. Therefore, in 2018 we will be offering two minor changes to this annual event. First, we will begin the 2018 event on Thursday and end the event midday Saturday. The Resort has agreed to honor our group rate for members that choose to stay throughout the weekend. Secondly, the WV Loggers Council of WVFA has taken on a project to reintroduce the WV Timber & Wood Show exhibition. Their vision is to create an exhibition for those vendors who supply to and support our industry. This exhibition is being planned for our Summer Meeting in Canaan and the Expo will be at the Bear Paw Lodge location. Initial response from vendors has been very favorable do to the solid efforts of the WV Loggers Council. Therefore, we have proposed to rename the annual BBQ event as the “WV Loggers Council BBQ.” Look for additional details on the summer meeting later this spring. While our state officials look to diversify our economy and improve our State’s competitiveness, we at WVFA continue to strive to improve our services and bring value to our membership. Now, I invite you to browse this edition of “Mountain State Forestry” and a big thank you to those who support this publication through advertisement.  Mark N.
