www.wvfa.org Making the Grade in Sustainable Forestry A&A TRADING LTD. (A&A), a family-owned, SFI certified forestry company with operations on the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia, is working with local hikers to change the way people think about the forest industry. A&A has installed informational signs along hiking trails that explain the connection between sustainable forest management and recreation, reforestation strategies, the economic benefits of forest management, and the wildlife tree retention patches that are reserved for wildlife and biodiversity values. SCHOOLS, YOUTH GROUPS, NATURE CENTERS and other organizations are invited to apply for funds to help students implement an action project they help design to green their school or to improve an aspect of their neighborhood’s environment. The projects partner students with their whole school, local businesses and/ or community organizations, and provide opportunities for student leadership. The funds can be used by students to implement recycling programs at their school, conserve water and energy, establish school gardens and outdoor classrooms, improve a forest, or restore a natural habitat, for example. Grants up to $1,000 are available. The deadline to apply is Sept. 30. To be eligible, applicants must have attended a PLT professional development workshop—either in person or online.  Forest History Society Website The Forest History Society has launched its new, mobile-friendly website! Thanks to a generous donation to support the redesign effort, FHS's site is now a dynamic, responsive one that will allow the Society to more easily reach a broader audience, regardless of what device is being used to access it. Improved features include faster access to our most popular photo galleries, FHS news items, and the most recent blog posts and tweets—all from the homepage. The new design will make it easier for staff to add new materials, such as audio recordings and documents, to the site as they are digitized. Check out the new website and let us know what you think! 
