PLSO The Oregon Surveyor January February 2021
21 Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon | www.plso.org The Lost Surveyor Question T his Lost Surveyor is my first attempt at a riddle, so we’ll see how it goes. Traveling an Oregon highway, there’s a place where one will drive between two surveyors. These surveyors are of par - ticular note because for most of us, they straddle the path to an Oregon surveying destination. I know many of you have trav - eled this route, just as I have, and were probably never the wiser. Both of these surveyors will help stretch your legs after a long journey. In fact, if traveling south, when passing these two, you will know you’re nearly there. The surveyor on the right, which is actually the left when traveling south, allows travel - ers to wet a line, enjoy some scenery, and even use the potty if necessary. Listening closely, a train horn can be heard, because his namesake closely follows your route and that of the train. An Oregon “Beaver Board” tells his story. The surveyor on the right, actually spans the right and the left and he hosts the first. This surveyor will regale visitors in Oregon history of horses and steam and diesel. There is much to learn unrelated to surveying. He too offers the opportu - nity to stretch your legs, throw a rock in the Spring Creek, or just enjoy the scenery. His family provided this gift to Oregon to honor his legacy. Who are they? continues T Where can you travel an Oregon highway and pass between two surveyors? Photo 1: Can you guess this location?
