PLSO The Oregon Surveyor January February 2021

10 The Oregon Surveyor | Vol. 44, No. 1 PLSO Conference 2021 T hank you to everyone that attend - ed the 2021 PLSO Conference in January! This year set quite the challenge for the Conference Committee to research and implement ways to still bring quality PDHs and opportunities for the Oregon land surveying community to come together. One of the benefits so many PLSOmembers have said about attending the traditional in-person event is the networking. Knowing how import - ant it was, we knew it would be tough to offer the same type of experience in a virtual setting. As a result, we found a platform that would not only provide a mechanism to watch classes via tele - conference, but also provide community boards, contests, exhibit booths, and other ways for you guys to have a little networking opportunity. I know it wasn’t the same, but for those of us that were active in the Community Board topics and meet-ups, it was a fun way to take part in conversations that might not have happened in person. Some ex - amples include conversations involving women in surveying, teaching the art of surveying, life after surveying, software needs, small business owner issues, li - dar applications, why a professional land surveyor is irreplaceable, writing about surveying, and even what you would do with a million dollars. Another great way to connect with other attendees was through the photo submis - sions and subsequent photo contest. I had a good time scrolling through moments people shared of themselves on the job. There was such a broad spectrumof pho - tos submitted, I felt everyone could relate to, laugh at, or appreciate one or more of the images that reflected the many fasci - nating aspects of land surveying. 2021 Annual Conference Did you find a relatable image? Maybe a great equipment setup or a weathered survey monument that we all continually search for, or perhaps it was a captured moment of teaching the next genera - tion of surveyors. Hopefully you enjoyed them, and we picked some to show you here. Thank you to all those who submit - ted photos and to those attendees who reviewed and liked various submissions. Congratulations to the winners, who each won a $50 gift card, and thanks again for being a part of this year’s virtual PLSO conference. I don’t know what the future looks like quite yet for 2022, but like all of you, the Conference Committee will look for - ward to seeing you all in person. If you are interested in joining the committee, please be sure to reach out to me or Ai - mee McAuliffe. — Jered McGrath, Conference Chair The 2021 PLSO Annual Conference was held virtually.
