PLSO May June 2019

Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon | www.plso.org 7 From the PLSO Office regarding possible changes in approach or activities we are involved in when moving forward. Strategic plans regular- ly cover a three- to five-year time frame. Consequently, PLSO has created a cou- ple iterations of its plan throughout the years. The current effort is being led by Committee Chair and Midwest Chapter President, Tim Fassbender. When you renew your membership, you will notice a dues change. PLSO has in- creased by a few dollars to accommodate the rise of operational costs as per the by- laws. NSPSmembershiphas also increased from $40 to $50. Per Curt Sumner, Execu- tive Director of NSPS, the initial negotiation of $40 was based upon membership re- ports from the respective state societies. However, this did not account for pro- fessionals that were members of more than one society, who are only required to pay membership in their home state. While this put a strain on their budget, they continued to provide the same level of service and activities as intended. As with any any organization, the cost of op- erations and expanded services continues to rise. During its October 20, 2018 Fall Board of Directors meeting, after plenty of discussion with each state represen- tative and their Board of Directors, the NSPS Board of Directors passed a mo- tion to increase the annual membership dues for full members to $50/year within the guidelines of the joint membership agreement between the respective state surveying societies and NSPS. It is an exciting time to be a part of PLSO and we look forward to everyone con- tinuing their membership on or before July 1. A handful of people renew their membership each January, right before the conference. I encourage you to be a member all year. It costs the same. If you are a newmember of our community that joined after April 15, your membership is good through the next year. If you are unsure, simply login to plso.org and look at your member profile. It will indicate when your membership expires. Thanks again, to each and every one of you for being part of the Oregon land sur- veying community. Every success we have is because of our membership. It isn’t al- ways easy dedicating time to something on top of having a full-time job. I see you and appreciate all that you do.  x
