The Oregon Surveyor Sept/Oct 2018

Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon | www.plso.org 3 From the Editor opportunities that have arisen for me to tell some stranger a bit of historical “trivia” that I have gleaned from Pat and his articles. I’m sure I’m not alone in ap- preciating what Pat does because I can remember a time when our editorial team was trying to decide which article to omit from an issue when there was too much material to publish. Several folks object- ed vehemently when deleting “The Lost Surveyor” from an issue was suggested. I have only scratched the surface when it comes to career opportunities that can arise from the pursuit of a career in sur- veying. The fundamental truth is, you’ll never know where the path can lead un- less you take that first step. If you know someone with the appropriate aptitudes and attitudes, maybe you should tap into their sense of wonder and talk about what you do. Better yet, invite them to lunch where you’ve arranged to have a couple of peers show up who practice in areas that are different than your own and share your stories. So many of us never intended to become surveyors, but the truth is, the profession chose us, often- times simply because the people we met whowere surveyors were so interesting! x Your Place for Continuing Education and Professional Networking Join your surveying community January 16-18, 2019 in Eugene.
