PLSO The Oregon Surveyor Nov/Dec 2018
Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon | www.plso.org 3 From the Editor it meant. I’ve written several stories for this magazine about such moments, yet there aremany more that are known only to me as I’ve simply not had the time to write them, nor have I wanted to be ac- cused of monopolizing the storytelling in this magazine! Finally, my hat is off to Stephanie James- on for sharing her story about recovering benchmarks over an entire summer on a project for NGS. During my years of attending meetings of the Oregon GPS Users Group, it became very clear that Eastern Oregon was bereft of a con- trol network that could help to solidify datums in that region, resulting in ex- tremely unreliable vertical positioning whilst using GPS. I’m thinking that pic- ture will dramatically improve with the work done by Stephanie and others in the uncharted areas of North America. I am sure that Stephanie will always have fond memories of her experience, re- gardless of the heat. In summary, such experiences as shared in this magazine are a common occur- rence in our field. We need to get the word out to folks who might have the aptitude for surveying but are uncertain regarding the career path they should fol- low. If you know someone like that, tell them to follow ours ! x
