OTA Dispatch Issue 4 2019
21 www.ortrucking.org Issue 4 | 2019 OTA named Leavitt’s Freight Service, led by Ron Riddle, Carrier of the Year. The company’s strongest values are integrity and premium service and each of the employees that interact with OTA exemplify these characteristics. Ron’s childhood dream was to be a truck driver, and it’s clear he has a strong passion for trucking as he continued to move into different roles within the industry. Ron is currently on OTA’s Executive Committee, and other team members have been pivotal in promoting safety in the industry through efforts in the Safety Management Council and participation in OTA’s NW Fleet Safety Certification Program as graduates and volunteers. Leavitt’s employees are active in OTA committees, have helped organize and execute some of the largest association events and classes, including the Truck Driving Championships and Train the Trainer Program, and are always available to help with calls-to-action. Billy Dover and Gene Hullette have been huge supporters of OTA’s programs and services. Leavitt’s is a true example of how a commitment to safety has a positive impact on the bottom line. They frequently take advantage of OTA’s wide range of training offerings to supplement their internal efforts. In addition, they are heavily involved in their local communities and help the trucking industry move forward. TEC Equipment, a family-owned and one of the largest trucking dealerships in Oregon, was awarded Allied Member of the Year. TEC has been a huge advocate for trucking industry affairs, and John Barnes, who officially accepted the award, has assisted in numerous ways, particularly at the Annual Convention. Representatives from the company have also contributed their time at other OTA events, even with short notice, and at OTA committees and legislative calls to action. For several years, TEC hosted a reception at the Swedish embassy for the OTA delegation during the annual Call on Washington event, which is OTA’s annual trip to Washington, DC to meet with Oregon congressional members and their staff. They have sent their diesel technicians to participate in the Annual SuperTech competition, and also brought out their grills this year to feed the competitors and attendees at the Oregon Truck Driving Championships. The organization gives back to their local community in various ways, including contributions and/or volunteerism at Oregon State University, Portland State University, Legacy Hospitals, Oregon Harbor of Hope, Truckers Against Trafficking, food banks, and more. They are well-known for their efforts in positively promoting trucking throughout the state. John has been a key example of how to interface with OTA as an allied member. Allied members offer products and services to carrier members and some may also operate trucks. They are a critical portion of OTA’s membership and act as a resource for the industry, so we are grateful for their support.
