OTA Dispatch Issue 4 2019

11 www.ortrucking.org Issue 4 | 2019 Getting back to the business at hand, additional committee meetings proved highly productive with fresh ideas and action items brought to the forefront on how OTA staff and members can be more involved in government affairs, attract new members, and help our industry be more successful. After a morning update from ODOT, five legislators came on stage for a discussion on carbon policy in Oregon. The golf tournament turned out to be a somewhat damp endeavor, but that didn’t stop our intrepid golfers from testing their swing ability in the pouring rain—some decked out in full rain gear. Others looking to stay dry joined the breakout sessions that covered ELDs, a refresher on how laws are made, and a condensed history of the trucking industry. The evening concluded with possibly the highest attended Truck PAC dinner in recent times. The contentious 2019 legislative session is proof of the importance of trucking’s involvement in the process and OTA’s advocacy efforts are funded through the Truck PAC. Support here at the convention and throughout the year makes it all possible.
