Oregon Fatality Assessment and Control Evaluation (OR-FACE) is a project in the Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). The OR-FACE program is a National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) sponsored research program designed to prevent occupational fatalities by identifying and studying fatal occupational injuries in Oregon. OR-FACE staff conducts surveillance, investigation, and assessment of traumatic occupational fatalities, and produces outreach materials to promote worker safety. OR-FACE investigations of fatal occupational incidents assess risk factors that include the working environment, the worker, activity, tools, energy exchange, and role of management. Research and investigation findings help guide the team’s outreach efforts, by identifying injury trends and prevention needs. OR-FACE publishes a variety of outreach materials, such as hazard alerts, toolbox talks, safety booklets, along with fatality investigation reports, annual reports, and other safety resources. The team also develops and presents training to industry and trade groups, as well as safety and health professionals.
