NAFCU Journal March April 2021

25 THE NAFCU JOURNAL March–April 2021 A s companies throughout the world scrambled to move employees out of the office and into home-based offices, the IT staff and management at Connex Credit Union had a roadmap to support a remote workforce. The only problem: The roadmap was a plan to enable remote work in 2022. “We were working through the processes and the infrastructure needed to support remote workers, so we had given thought to what was necessary, but the pandemic accelerated our plans,” says Dennis Kle- menz, chief information officer and vice president at the Connecticut credit union. “Our implementation plan was shortened from 2 ½ years to eight months.” Understanding what was required from a cybersecurity standpoint for an employee to work from home did help streamline the process for Connex. Prior to the pandemic, about 20 employees worked remotely. That number was doubled in 2020. Selection of who would work remotely was determined by a combi- nation of job responsibilities as well as infrastructure support, Klemenz adds. By Sheryl S. Jackson
