American Traffic Safety Services Association 30 Training News ATSSA to offer new sign retroreflectivity courses ATSSA’s training courses are themost recognized and widely accepted train- ing programs in the roadway safety in- frastructure industry. Last year, thou- sands of individuals took classroom training, obtained certifications, and were trained online through ATSSA. As of 2020, ATSSA has provided road- way safety training for 50 years. This year, ATSSA will be rolling out new cours- es on sign retroreflectivity to further serve individuals and organizations in the roadway safety infrastructure industry. “We were happy to announce our new sign retroreflectivity courses are available for those seeking inspection certifications to ensure devices meet the visibility re- quirements laid out in theManual for Uni- form Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)” ATSSA Director of Training Jessica Schey- der said. “By offering these new training options, we can help individuals who are seeking to round out their skillset to ac- complish that goal.” Scheyder said ATSSA offers the only train- ing designed to meet the minimum sign retroreflectivity requirements in the MUTCD, per theguidancedocument FHWA- SA-07-020, and the courses are available online for traffic sign inspectors. The in- spectors must complete a minimum of three out of six modules, which can be finished in less than two hours. “Having signs and devices that meet the retroreflectivity standards is so import- ant,” said ATSSA Vice President of Mem- ber Services Donna Clark. “Being able to properly see roadway and traffic con- trol devices is crucial to keeping the mo- toring and non-motoring public safe— especially at night, and in and around work zones.
