ATSSA Signal July/August 2019

American Traffic Safety Services Association 14 Government Relations #TimeToBuild ATSSA advocates for investment in roadway safety infrastructure During Infrastructure Week 2019, ATSSA and leading transportation or- ganizations came together to advocate for i nves tment i n our na t i on ’ s infrastructure. ATSSA members and the public know that infrastructure investment is critical and can save lives. In 2018, 77 percent of state and local infrastructure ballot measures were approved by voters across the country. “More and more, Americans across the country are supporting increased invest- ments in infrastructure. Infrastructure Week was a crucial time for all of us to spread the message that Safer Roads Save Lives, and roadway safety infra- structure makes a difference. Let’s build for tomorrow, for a future where there are no deaths or serious injuries on our nation’s roadways. With only a D+ rating for America’s infrastructure from the American Society of Civil Engineers, the time to talk infrastructure is now,” said ATSSA’s Vice President of Government Relations Nate Smith. The conversation on infrastructure in- vestment will continue as ATSSA ad- vocates for an infrastructure package in Congress, long-term solvency for the Highway Trust Fund, and a high- way reauthorization bill to follow the Fixing America’s Surface Transporta- tion (FAST) Act. As part of Infrastructure Week, ATSSA’s President & CEO Roger Wentz spoke during a press conference with the High- way Materials Group (HMG), including Reps. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) and Rodney Davis (R-Ill.), and infrastructure organization leaders. ATSSA President and CEO Roger Wentz spoke at the HMG press conference during Infrastructure Week 2019.
