ANA\C The Nursing Voice Summer 2019

4  . The Nursing Voice . Summer 2019 regional networking opportunities. We’d love to hear from you on what is happen- ing in your nursing practice, facility, and in your region. This is your association! Thank you so much for your continued support, dedication to the profession of nursing, and for your ongoing mem- bership. I’d also like to give thanks to our past Board Members, Dr. Mary Ann McCarthy and Tanya Davis, for their time, dedication and service to this marvelous organization. We could not do any of this without each and every one of you. Contact Marketa— ED@anacalifornia.org (916) 346-4590 Executive Director Welcome In May 2019, we welcomed new ANA\C President, Dr. Anita Girard, and new VP, Phillip Bautista. While they are both returning Board Members, they will serve in different elected positions. While welcoming back four of our past Board Members, we also welcomed two brand new Board Members, Dr. Robyn Nelson and Dr. Janette Moreno, as Directors of Nursing Education and Membership respectively. Over the past 20 months, ANA\C grew by more than 30% and we continued to restructure and reorganize. We ended 2018–19 fiscal year on a positive note by establishing a savings account with 6-month operating expenses reserves. Due to the massive success of April 2019 RN Day that sold out in 10 days, we now offer a second RN Day on August 19, 2019 and are excited to see our political presence and advocacy influence grow. Last but not least, we brought a large ANA\C delegation to ANA Hill Day and Membership Assembly 2019 in Washing- ton, D.C. where two of our current Board Members, Phillip Bautista and Kelly Bell, represented ANA\C as candidates for ANA Board positions. We are on a roll, and we are just getting started! Earlier this month I met with our new President, Dr. Anita Girard, at her office at Stanford Health Care at Palo Alto, CA. We went over all projects, events and initiatives we are currently involved with and we reviewed a list of our coalition and project partners. During our open and honest discussion when I asked Dr. Girard what she would like her legacy to be she, without missing a beat replied, “Increased member engagement, without a doubt!” ANA\C is lucky and fortunate enough to have undergone a massive organizational and financial transfor- mation, we reviewed and updated all policies in 2018 and we transferred all There is a lot of excitement at ANA\C! our financial operations from ANA back to ANA\C. Based on the diligent work of reorganizing, restructuring and updating ANA\C policies by the previous Board of Directors, this 2019–2021 Board of Direc- tors is wonderfully positioned to focus on events, programs, member retention and member engagement, thus on you. How are we going to do it? We have an idea: During the first Board meeting in El Camino Hospital in May 2019, a dynamic discussion ensued about how to bring ANA\C closer to you and how to best serve you, our member. The Board had decided to hold 3–4 ANA\C Board of Directors in-person meeting regionally, i.e. in the SD Region, LA Region, and in Fresno to name a few. Next to regional meetings, the ANA\C Board will also meet for in-person Strategic Planning session in August 2019 in Sacramento, CA where the Board will review current ANA\C Public Policy Agenda, ANA\C mission, vision and values, and legislative priorities. The Board will also set specific short and long-term goals to evaluate our work and our impact. I welcome the Board’s decision to hold regional Board meetings aimed at bringing this organization closer to its members, inviting local coalition project partners and interested stakeholders alongside regional decision-makers. It could provide an opportunity for bring- ing ANA\C to facilities and hospitals where the Board Members could meet with ANA\C members and nursing lead- ership. If you or your organization is interested in inviting/hosting ANA\C Board of Directors meeting in your facility, please reach out to us at the office as we cannot do this without you. These regional meetings would give ANA\C an opportunity to not only bring this organization closer to you, our valued and valuable member, but they could also serve as “listening tours” and Marketa Houskova MAIA, BA, RN—Executive Director ANA\C Executive Director
