T R E E F A R M N E W S www.wvfa.org Forest Service Preparing Proposal for Restoration Projects on Federal Lands in Upper Cheat Watershed MONONGAHELA NATIONAL FOREST’S CHEAT-POTOMAC RANGER DISTRICT, in the northern part of the national forest with offices in Parsons and Petersburg, is developing a proposal for a variety of forest restoration activities in the Upper Cheat watershed. Once fully developed and approved, project implementation is expected to occur over a ten-year period. The watershed is generally north of Parsons in Tucker, Barbour, and Preston counties, and includes an area of about 86,000 acres, including 33,991 acres of federal lands. Proposed activities would occur on national forest lands. Forest Service staff held two virtual online sessions in December 2020 to introduce the project concept to members of the public, including local landowners, and to listen to public feedback. Fact sheets and presentations from those meetings can be downloaded at www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=58364. 22 West Virginia Forestry Association Mountain State Forestry | Spring 2021
