In 2009 the average owner’s age was 48.7, and that increased to 52.9 years by 2019. Looking at the increasing average age of logging business owners and concerns related to the future logging workforce, our plan is to use the upcoming 2024 SHARP Logger survey to take a closer look at succession plans. The 2024 Virginia SHARP Logger survey should be going out in the late summer or early fall. If you are a SHARP Logger, you should be getting a survey in the mail soon. We hope that you will take a few minutes to complete it. All SHARP Loggers are invited to complete the brief first section of the survey. Logging business owners are asked to complete the full survey to tell us about their operations. This survey can provide us with the data to tell the story of challenges and changes in Virginia’s logging industry. The more loggers that complete the survey, the better we can tell your story.
