Fall 2023 19 out enjoying fishing and hunting with fellow disabled sportsmen,” Galica said. “Since I've also always enjoyed helping others, it's been a perfect fit for me, joining the board and volunteering for this wonderful organization. I know firsthand how much it means to have the opportunity to enjoy nature again.” Paul State Forest gives us the ability to easily host four to five hunters in the northwestern part of the state. Kauffman was eager to make it as accessible and successful as possible by creating additional trails to get hunters into prime locations. As with hunting anywhere, it takes time and effort. After the first trial run— a muzzleloader hunt in early November—we were able to successfully harvest several deer during the second hunt, a December rifle hunt. After the first season, Jack was already thinking of ways to improve blind locations for future hunts. We are excited to be offering another muzzleloader and rifle hunt this fall in Paul State Forest. Although my morning hunt of 2005 was unsuccessful in terms of bagging a big gobbler, it was a huge success for building a long-lasting partnership and giving our disabled sportsmen many great days afield. Our partnership has grown and prospered since that first meeting 18 years ago, and we look forward to many years of great hunting opportunities on DOF properties around the state.
