A moment of silence was taken for all those lost during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack on NYC MOTION: Minutes of June meeting accepted PRESENT: : Drs. Flagiello, Shalan, Buchalter, Mistretta, Libramonte, Carute, De Leonibus, Demas, Wolfe, Meiselman, Mindlin, Albicocco, Teplitsky, Merlino, Scibetta, Sager and Venterina; Mr. Hackett EXCUSED: Drs. Richard, Donato, Turchak, Segelnick and Quartey-Sagaille GUESTS: Drs. Letter from Dr. Jay Skolnick re: Dr. Maria Maranga’s campaign for ADA president-elect 2. Letter from the International College of Dentists re: the Golden Pen Award 3. Letter from NYC College of Technology thanking Second District Dental Society (SDDS) for the student awards for the lab tech department 4. Email from Dr. Howard Lieb thanking SDDS for the condolences on his brother’s passing 5. Letter from NYSDA President-Elect Dr. Krishnan confirming her invitation to the SDDS March 7, 2024 REPORT OF OFFICERS AND STAFF: President — Dr. Raymond Flagiello: • Gave the report of the Nominating Committee and vote to be held at the November general membership meeting; • Attended separate fundraisers for New York State Senators Jessica ScarcellaSpanton and Andrew Gounardes • Attended the Joint Audit Committee meeting • Attended the GNYDM travel budget meeting and the GNYDM Organization Committee meeting • Participated in the ADA pre-caucus meeting • Will preside over the joint fishing trip with New York County Dental Society on Oct. 1 President-elect report read by Mr. Hackett and Drs. Oshrain, Carute, Flagiello, Lieb, Mindlin and Ratner. NYSDA REPORTS: Dr. Demas reported on the latest developments regarding California’s possible plan to remove itself from the ADA and NYS’s bills to introduce “dental therapists.” SDDS REPORTS: Greater New York Dental Meeting Report — Dr. Richard Oshrain: • Reported on GNYDM progress — all numbers are up, i.e., booth sales, sponsorships, registrations, visa applications and education enrollments Richmond County Dental Society — Dr. Christen Carute: • Reported on RCDS scheduled meetings and installation scheduled for Jan. 27, 2024 — “A Magical, Mystical Evening” Awards Committee — Dr. Ratner: • Introduced this year’s recipients of the SDDS Loan Forgiveness Awards Motion passed: To continue awards to NYC College of Technology and Tottenville High School Motion passed unanimously: That the Committee is recommending to the Board that Dr. Steven Gounardes be awarded the SDDS Distinguished Service Award NEW BUSINESS: Motion passed (Mindlin): That SDDS contribute up to $10,000 for the campaign to elect Dr. Maria Maranga as ADA president-elect; $5,000 to be contributed now, up to another $5,000 to be contributed in 2024 if needed GOOD & WELFARE: • Nov 3, 2023: “Scrubs & Stilettos” sponsored by Nassau County Dental Society and Suffolk County Dental Society ADJOURNMENT: Meeting adjourned at 8:24 P.M.
