DOH will send Dr. Demas and Bernie the description and then will invite other components in the city. May extend to the rest of the state if information is not NYC specific • Contacted all residency programs except Wyckoff and VA for residency visits • Need sponsors for the house of delegates social functions • We may be going to live meetings in the fall, but Dyker Beach may or may not be avail- able to us for a live membership meeting. May consider Gargiulos if we do not hear from Dyker Beach soon NYSDA REPORTS: Council on Dental Practice — Dr. John Demas (emailed): • Dr. Demas was elected as chair for another year Council on Peer Review and QA — Dr. Man Sing Cheung (emailed): • Issue of a mandated vaccination for the participants • It was voted unanimously that the employee dentist and the owner dentist must be a member of NYSDA for the Peer Review Committee to hear the case. This will now go on to the state level for approval Council on Dental Benefit Plans — Dr. Alyson Buchalter (emailed): • Medicare Advantage Plan requested money from a dentist because the dentist had opted out of Medicare. Medicare will no longer be paying doctors that have opted out of Medi- care Advantage plans • Dr. Buchalter was elected to serve as chair for another year NYSDA Medicaid Subcommittee — Dr. Steve Backer (emailed) NYSDA Trustee —Dr. Mitchell Mindlin: • Advocacy Day included the lieutenant gover- nor, senate majority leader and the chair of the health committee • NYSDA will have a new risk management course targeting residents in a few months • NYSDA received a PPP loan and unsure if it will be a forgiven loan and is being set aside until finances are assessed • New York State Department of Education has never endorsed us for COVID-19 testing and vaccinating. The governor’s order was only in state of emergency. It is currently still out of scope of practice • A request has been made to update NYS COVID guidelines to coincide with CDC guidelines. NYS requires you to wait 15 minutes between patients and CDC is under the discretion of the provider • ADA Advocacy Day included a bill that will increase COVID relief and make PRF grants tax-exempt. Also, a bill for tax credits for PPE and another for insurance companies to pay for birth defects. Many dentists and students spoke on a bill to permit students to recalcu- late and refinance student loan debt SDDS REPORTS: Greater New York Dental Meeting — Drs. Oshrain/ James Doundoulakis: • New York is fully opening but how will larger venues entertain people at programs i.e., sporting events, exhibit halls. Gover- nor is not making a form commitment or comments. • Committee is getting educational program ready.
