SDDS Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes APRIL 5, 2021 BOARD OF TRUSTEES ZOOM MEETINGMINUTES President Dr. Babak Bina called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. Motion passed: To accept the minutes of the March 1, 2021 board of trustees meeting PRESENT : Drs. Bina, Donato, Flagiello, Mindlin, Quartey-Sagaille, Bongiorno, Teplitsky Buccigrossi, Butt, Venterina, Albicocco, Buchalter, Cheung, DeLeonibus, Demas, Katz, Meiselman, Merlino, Mistretta, Richard, Rosenwein, Sager, Scibetta, Segelnick, Turchak. CORRESPONDENCE: None REPORT OF OFFICERS AND STAFF: President —Dr. Babak Bina: • NYCDS and SDDS met with GNYDM through Zoom. No more additional funds are needed • Met with Senator Gounardes through EDPAC Treasurer —Dr. Paul Teplitsky: • Report submitted Executive Director — Mr. Bernard Hackett: • Started two new people: ChristineTerrio and Stephanie Carter. Christine has experience with Hilton Corporation and Stephanie has Prada and Screen Actors Guild experience. Going through training. Resolving IT issues for new additions • Veronica staying on until we have success- fully oriented the two new employees • Updating website to ADA version is nearing completion • ADA is helping with orientation to Aptify • Will be sending new employees to Albany to spend time with NYSDA staff when COVID pandemic allows • Finalizing LLC with Ms. Laurenzo and the LLC attorney and then will be working with Department of State, accountants and GNYDM • Need volunteers to visit and speak with resi- dents but will be scheduled by SDDS. Visits/ Zoom visits to be completed no later than first to second week in June • Loan forgiveness application period has closed. Once all supplemental information is in will, ISTS will begin scoring and ranking • SDDS membership meeting in conjunc- tion with RCDS membership meeting for this Thursday April 8. Must register for the meeting in order to attend • This will be Dr. Jennifer Katz’s last meeting as a member of the SDDS Board of Trustees due to her relocation NYSDA REPORTS: MLMIC Underwriting —Dr. Richard Oshrain: • Berkshire Hathaway has completed the transition of MLMIC. Board of directors of MLMIC used to have 39 members; it has now been reduced to seven members • Dental Underwriting Committee will no longer be reviewing people who apply for coverage. The no coverage decision is made by the company not committee. The under- writing committee will be on an advisory basis • There is a dental subcommittee of MLMIC • In 2020, a third of policies were part-time but are all back to full-time status • Civil liabilities cases are on hold: nothing new is being filed and nothing is being litigated • The Underwriting Committee is now a part of NYSDA and the president of NYSDA will now appoint members • District liability claims is wrapping up cases that had been previously initiated under the old policy • The decision to settle or to defend a case is now up to the dentist. Lawyers can ask for district claims to review a case for NYSDA members only. District claims will now be voluntary. Risk management course is free to members and non-members and will be given to all residents • MLMIC and NYSDA are using same PR company and are trying to do marketing together • Now have an online application form, online forms and online payments. There will be a microsite within the website for new dentists • They will continue to sponsor events for components • An application to the insurance department has been made to cover dentists who admin- ister vaccines.
