31 www.ortrucking.org Issue 2 | 2023 Private Carrier— Organically Grown Private carriers also play an important role in moving products to consumers, with an entire truck fleet dedicated to a single company or type of product. Organically Grown, a private carrier, employs 247 employees to move organic produce across Oregon, Washington, Montana and Idaho. Organically Grown’s Rob Halterman believes that trucking is important because it is the one industry that moves everything that people have. “Without trucks, everyone would be homeless, naked and starving,” said Rob. “That’s why trucking is imperative to Oregon and the nation’s economy, but it’s often forgotten. Things do not appear magically. At some point those items were on a truck.” Truckload & Mover Carrier— Lile International When asked about the trucking industry, most Oregonians don’t automatically think of moving companies like Pacific Northwest-based Lile International. Movers like Lile move 80% of all products used in Oregon, and move furniture, fixtures and equipment for households, office and industrial companies and military personnel. While movers may be one of the few types of carriers that directly serve consumers, they play an extremely important role in Oregon’s economy, all while operating within additional household good carrier regulations. With five branch locations that service Oregon, plus their corporate office, Lile has nearly 130 employees and 70 power units across the state. But beyond the critical role that trucking plays in Oregon’s economy, Lile’s Diane DeAutremont said that the one thing Trucking is the lifeline to our economy.
