She has been a resident of the skilled nursing facility for a little over a year. In this interview, she shares what gives her joy during her daily routine. What is your favorite part about living at Rose Linn Care Center? I love their activities. They have bingo three times a week and a movie night once a week. We play cards and board games, and they have a residents’ council. They just have a lot of stuff going on. The staff shop for my groceries and take me to my appointments. It’s great. What is your favorite activity? I enjoy playing bingo three times a week and we can win prizes. I’ve made some good friends, and I like to play Spite and Malice, which is a card game, with my roommate. Describe your morning routine. I wake up and eat breakfast between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. and then I snooze a little bit more. Then, I wake up and watch The Price is Right. I do a lot of journaling and write down how my day is going or just random thoughts. I also color a lot; I’m an avid colorist. There’s a community activity every day, so I like to do an activity before lunchtime. What do you love about coloring? I’ve been coloring for years. I have no clue how many coloring books I’ve finished. The most recent one I got is a Mandala coloring book, which are a bunch of unique shapes, and I really, really like it. It has hundreds of pages and it’s one of the best coloring books I’ve ever gotten. I love coloring; I feel very good. I’m in a wheelchair and I’m on oxygen so coloring is very relaxing me for me. I try to make lemonade out of lemons and think positively. What do you like to do in the afternoon? I go to lunch around 11:30 a.m. and I always order a hamburger or chicken strips. Then, I go do an activity or play solitaire in my room. I go to physical therapy and occupational therapy twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays. I have a good routine here; there’s always something to do. Once a week, I go out with a very good friend, and we go to Starbucks. I love the Starbucks biscuits, banana bread, and iced coffee. What are your favorite evening activities? I like going to dinner at around 5:30 p.m. and order a hamburger or chicken strips, like I do at lunch. My favorite dessert to get is ice cream; I love all flavors. Then, I like going back to my room and watch Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and the news. Sometimes I watch an NBA game. How do the staff at Rose Linn help you throughout the day? They’re very nice. They make sure I take my medication, check my sugar levels, make sure I have enough oxygen in my tank, change my bedding, and help me shower; they do quite a bit. One of the nurses works five shifts in four days and has three days off; I really miss her when she’s off. What can people expect when they live in a skilled nursing facility, like Rose Linn Care Center? It’s very good. I really like it here. The staff do a lot for you and there’s always something to do.  I love coloring; I feel very good. I’m in a wheelchair and I’m on oxygen so coloring is very relaxing me for me. I try to make lemonade out of lemons and think positively.
