ANNUAL MEETING RESOLUTION OBA, CBO & OBA Education Foundation Joint Annual Meeting December 5, 2023 | The Nines, Portland, Oregon HALL OF FAME WHEREAS, it is with a sense of great loss that we record the names of Oregon bankers who passed away during the last year. Each of the following individuals gave devoted service to their institutions and to the Oregon banking industry. They will be remembered for their many contributions to their customers, colleagues, financial institutions, communities and the state of Oregon: Paul Akre, U.S. Bank Lloyd Ankeny, West Coast Bank Victor Bartruff, Pinnacle Bank Ron Davison, First Federal Patsy Gilliam, Siuslaw Bank Tom Grove, Oregon Pacific Bank Tamara “Tammy” Johnson, Northwest Bank Karen Lawrence, Citizens Bank Marjorie Leach, Citizens Bank Michael “Mickey” McKay, WaFd Bank Steve Ryker, Wells Fargo Dave Takata, Willamette Community Bank Daniel Wybenga, Citizens Bank WHEREAS, Oregon bankers are deeply indebted to these departed colleagues for their service to the Oregon banking industry and the communities we serve; and WHEREAS, we mourn their passing and share the loss experienced by their friends and loved ones; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it Resolved by the delegates to the 2023 Leadership Symposium of the Oregon Bankers Association, duly assembled on this Tuesday, December 5, 2023, that we observe a moment of silence in recognition and memory of these and all other Oregon bankers who passed during the year just concluded. Sumpter’s contributions to the OBA and Oregon banking community are vast. He has traveled countless times to Washington, D.C. to advocate for the industry and has testified multiple times before the Oregon Legislature on banking issues. In recognition of his advocacy work, Sumpter was named the recipient of OBA’s Frank E. Brawner Advocacy Award in 2022. In his service to OBA, Sumpter has chaired the Oregon Bankers Association, Community Banks of Oregon and OBA’s Credit Union Task Force. He has served on the boards of OBA’s subsidiary Synergy by Association and the OBA Education Foundation. He is also a member of OBA’s Government Relations Committee and is an Oregon BankPAC Trustee. Additionally, Sumpter has represented Oregon banking on the American Bankers Association’s Membership Council, Government Relations Council and the national BankPAC Committee. When it comes to his community, Sumpter has given back in many ways. He is a past chair of the Providence Willamette Falls Medical Foundation and past president of the Gladstone Rotary Club, among other volunteer positions he’s held over the years. In commenting about his induction into the Oregon Bankers Hall of Fame, OBA President and CEO Linda Navarro stated, “I personally can’t think of a person that has voluntarily given more to OBA during the past 20 years. Jeff has already demonstrated in his career that he is a Hall of Famer. From founding a thriving bank to taking on virtually every leadership position within our association, he has done it all and still has years left to contribute.” Since its creation in 1987, the Oregon Bankers Hall of Fame has inducted 83 individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Oregon banking community and the communities they serve.  Continued from page 24 Winter 2024 • BANKING MATTERS 25
