Thursday, June 7  Ticketed Events/Workshops  Special Events  Lectures Friday, June 7 Treatment Planning Strategies for Dental Implants Dentists Dental Assistants 8:30–11:30am, Friday 6/7 LOCATION: NEVADA TYPE: REGULAR SESSION CEU: 3 DESCRIPTION: Dental implants have become the patient’s main option to restore edentulous areas. Different protocols and approaches have been developed since implants became available over 50 years ago. This lecture will discuss different site development strategies in depth and review several clinical scenarios and treatment options based on the current evidence. OBJECTIVES: • Understanding the biology of the alveolar ridge after tooth extraction and the concept of prosthetically-driven implant placement • Understand different hard and soft tissue development strategies • Description of different implant surgical options and techniques Implant Maintenance Dentists Dental Hygienists Dental Assistants 1–4pm, Friday 6/7 LOCATION: NEVADA TYPE: REGULAR SESSION CEU: 3 DESCRIPTION: With the increased number of clinicians placing dental implants, there has been an increase in implant-related complications. Within these complications, peri-implantitis is the most prevalent. The course will cover implant anatomy, peri-implant disease diagnosis, risk factors, and therapy. The last part of the lecture will focus on implant maintenance. OBJECTIVES: • Identify healthy and diseased dental implants • Identify and modify peri-implant risk factors • Understand the importance of prevention and supportive maintenance therapy Carlos Parra, DDS Dr. Carlos Parra was born and raised in Barcelona, Spain. He graduated from dental school (2009) at Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC), Barcelona, Spain. After his graduation, he got enrolled in a Clinical Residency in Periodontology at UIC (2009–2010). He also served as predoctoral clinical instructor (2011–2012) at UIC. During that period, he was also involved in researches relating oropharyngeal dysphagia and oral hygiene. Dr. Parra practiced dentistry in Barcelona, Spain, for three years (2009–2012) prior to coming to Boston, USA. In 2012 he continued his studies for a Certificate in Periodontics at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, Boston, Massachusetts (2012–2015). In November of 2015 he became a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Periodontics at Texas A&M College of Dentistry, Dallas, Texas. In September 2016, during the 102 Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), he received the Leslie M. Salkin Award for the highest-scoring candidate on the 2016 American Board of Periodontology (ABP) Oral Examination. On January 2019, Dr. Parra was appointed Assistant Program Director of the Department of Periodontology, at Texas A&M University. Dr. Parra has lectured nationally and internationally on periodontics. His main areas of interest are soft tissue enhancement and dental implants. Through his stories and experience Steve will make you smile and teach you the power of positivity. The Keynote Lunch is appropriate for your entire team. OBJECTIVES: • Understand the power of positivity • Identify ways you can positively influence your environment and community • Explore the joy of serving Steve Stucker Steve Stucker, New Mexico’s Beloved Meteorologist, has been the trusted face of weather forecasting for KOB 4 viewers since 1990. His vibrant presentations and community involvement have made him a household name in New Mexico. Known for his “Friday’s Furry Friends” segment, he is also known as “the Balloonatic.” Steve is an iconic figure at the Balloon Fiesta, famous for his hat and coat adorned with various pins. In 2022, Steve was inducted into the Silver Circle by the Rocky Mountain Emmys for significant contributions to the community for more than 25 years. Steve brought joy to many by featuring pets in need of homes. His dedication extends beyond the screen through his charity work with Beds 4 Kidz and his advocacy for motorcycle safety.
