The following members joined GDA W L M E C O E Jolanta Griffiths Northern William Krueger Northwestern Roshan Parikh Northern DavidWeldon Northwestern NDDS GADF Gala for Smiles The Greater Atlanta Dental Foundation (GADF) hosted its annual Gala for Smiles on August 20 at Dunwoody Country Club. Nearly 150 members of the Northern Dental District, guests and sponsors enjoyed the “Diamonds are Forever” James Bond-themed event, complete with a live auction and casino night, plus fun games and raffles. Dentist of the Year, Dr. Tom Jagor, was recognized along with the Green Warren Dental Clinic that provides acute dental care for adults as well as sealant and fluoride treatments for children. Proceeds from the event go to the GADF which supports local organizations, like the Green Warren Dental Clinic, that are dedicated to providing treatment to those who cannot otherwise access dental services. Dental College of Georgia Provides Free Community Screenings Dr. Kim Capehart, interim chair of the Department of General Dentistry and GDA Board of Trustees member, organized free dental screenings throughout the fall. Dental students and DCG faculty will volunteer at the DCG booth at Barnyard Flea Market to offer visual oral inspections to check for signs of dental disease or gum disease and determine if a visitor requires a referral to a dental practice for cleaning, further assessment, or treatment. Clinics offering free screenings like this one are part of yearly opportunities for dental students to receive practical educational feedback, impact public health, and raise awareness about DCG programs and patient services. “It will be more rewarding than the students may realize once they meet and screen those in our community,” Capehart said. “I know I always feel humbled by the opportunity to share my knowledge, skills, and compassion.” From left: Greater Atlanta Dental Foundation Secretary/Treasurer Dr. Troy Schulman, NDDS President Dr. Linda King, NDDS Newsletter Editor Dr. Nancy Myerson and Dr. Sammy Carden.
