October 2021 • 23 Dr. John “Jay” F. Harrington, Jr. of Milledgeville, GA, recently made the largest contribution to the GDA Foundation for Oral Health in the foundation’s history. Dr. Harrington made his gift with the stipend he received while serving as the fifth district representative on the ADA Board of Trustees. “I never expected to get paid for the volunteer job as a trustee,” said Dr. Harrington, “so I opened up an account and let it sit there until I decided what to do with it.” After serving two four-year terms, Dr. Harrington gave that money back to the states and members he represented. “When you can give, you are happy to give. Knowing that I am giving back to a foundation that has stood up to do so many good things, I knew it was the right thing to do,” said Dr. Harrington. The GDA House of Delegates and Board of Trustees honored Dr. Harrington for his gift at the 2021 GDA Convention and Expo. He hopes to inspire others to give back to their communities and the GDA Foundation for Oral Health.
