24 For years, we (as a society) have reaped the benefits of generative AI, a technology revolutionizing our daily operations. Amazon knows what we want to buy, Netflix knows what we want to watch, and Facebook knows who should be our friends. Now, as association professionals, we can harness this technology to empower our organizations. Associations are ideally positioned to explore generative AI technologies due to their affordability and user-friendliness. Unlike capital projects like a new website or AMS, association professionals can quickly benefit from generative AI without a significant investment of time or money. From enhancing productivity to improving member experience, the rewards of integrating AI are vast and varied. With so many possibilities, where should you start? Starting with ChatGPT, we developed fresh approaches to cyclical communications like renewal letters and event promotional copy. The more we learned about ChatGPT’s capabilities, the more we enhanced our AI skills to reorganize messy data, augment marketing strategies, and brainstorm new programs and products. More importantly, we increased productivity and found time to add more value to our member experience. But why stop there? We have successfully generated several written articles based on presentations delivered by our thought leaders using AI’s superpowers. Generative AI tools can digest the presentation materials and build the content in a different medium, allowing more members to consume it. Additionally, our thought leaders appreciate the opportunity to further their reach without much heavy lifting (we ask they review the content for accuracy and voice). AI FOR ASSOCIATIONS Easy Wins, Big Impact By Liz Peuster, CAE AI-generated voice has enabled us to present information in an auditory format more efficiently than human recording. AI does not stutter or trip over verbal pauses, so recording for voice-overs goes much faster. We use AI voice to record educational presentations, which makes the editing process far easier when information changes. We generate the updated section and re-render the video content for our online library. Our members gain value because they know the most accurate and up-to-date information is always available. Because these models constantly evolve, our evaluation of them is never complete. Agility and flexibility are paramount in model use. Given their price points, it’s possible to leverage multiple models to help power your association. At SCACPA, we use ChatGPT, Claude.ai, Google Gemini, ElevenLabs.io (for voice), and Microsoft Copilot. If your organization has yet to explore the business case for AI adoption, I encourage you to start now. Your first proof-of-concept may be small, but your cases will continue to grow. Through curiosity and experimentation, I am certain you will discover time saved and value found. Like other technological disruptors, generative AI is here to stay, elevating consumer expectations. See how it can amplify your association’s value proposition.
