10 Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. HIGHLIGHT The Michigan winter weather posed no issue for the Emerging Professionals to meet up in Novi at the end of February and try their hand at curling. The first networking event of 2023 for the group provided an opportunity for members to learn something completely new and challenge themselves. Michael Boulus, rental coordinator at AIS Construction Equipment Corp., was excited when it was announced in November that the group was going curling. “Curing was something I’ve been wanting to try for some time now,” Boulus said. “It’s even better to learn this sport with a group of beginners and partners in the construction industry. Sometimes it’s so nice to have something to break the ice, no pun intended, to make deeper connections with people who can help you at work and see personal growth along the way with.” After a safety briefing and explanation of the game, teams were made and positions were determined. Jack Krill from Merlo Construction and Tabitha Tejero from VTC Insurance went to the other end and played as skips, determined to make the other teams’ rock slide off the target. Up in the middle of the ice, John Lizza from AssuredPartners and Joe Krajacic from Robert Clancy Contracting served as sweeps, aiming to get their teams’ rock down to the target. “I like to push myself out of my comfort zone and try new things, so it’s a great experience to come out here today,” said Kyle Finnerty, estimator and project manager at Merlo Construction. “This is my second emerging professional event, but this group is so welcoming. I’ve met a lot of these people prior to joining, but it’s nice having a chance to catch-up and see what’s going on for them in their role.
