In these workshops, 55 participating landowners were introduced to mylandplan.org , an online application developed by the American Forest Foundation to help people writing their own forest management plans. Getting plans into the hands of woodland owners can be challenging. Difficulties contacting landowners, getting them to commit to planning, and subsequent follow-through with the plan can be challenging and sometimes take a long time. The overall purpose of this Tree Farm project was to fast-track plans into the hands of woodland owners using MyLandPlan.org. In late February and early March, forestry volunteers from the Tree Farm Committee held workshops in Parkersburg, Moorefield, and Institute. The professionals volunteering for these events were from WVDOF, Pixelle Specialty Papers, Weyerhaeuser, WVU and WVSU Extension, and several private consultants. Three primary goals of these workshops were achieved at each of these evening workshops: “Creating Your Ideal Woodlands”— Outreach Education for WV Landowners John Cobb, 2019 Tree Farmer of the Year, tells workshop participants about the work he has carried out on his property in Lewis County.
