With the flood of CBD products on the market, you will have to do a little research to find the best CBD oil companies. Look for a reliable provider with a good reputation. Avoid products that make sweeping health claims or ridiculously low prices. Consumer Reports’ “How to Shop for CBD” offers eight pointers for the novice CBD oil buyer. Start small. It can be easy to add too much when you’re starting out, which can alter the taste of your recipe and affect your dose. While you can’t overdose on CBD, too much can make some people sleepy. It usually takes about 45 minutes to an hour for the effects of ingested CBD kick in. Temperature matters. Keeping an eye on temperature is especially important when cooking with CBD. CBD’s boiling point is 320–356 degrees Fahrenheit, which means CBD begins to evaporate and you lose potency and create a more bitter taste. Stir, stir, and stir again. Stir early and stir often. This ensures your CBD is evenly distributed throughout the recipe and each bite offers equal potency. Choose the right carrier. CBD works best in recipes when it’s infused into a fat or oil-based ingredient (think butter, ghee, or coconut oil) before it can be used in your cooking. Store properly. When you’re not using your CBD, store it in a cool, dark place. Cannabinoids are naturally sensitive to heat and light, leading to overall degradation in potency and quality.
