28  • PENNSYLVANIA RESTAURANT & LODGING matters • Winter 2018 MEMBER MILESTONES Northeastern Chapter The beautiful, historic Hawley Silk Mill was the site of the Northeastern Chapter’s September meeting. Representatives from PRLA Preferred Partner Programs and Christine Preuss, PRLA member service manager, highlighted the current offerings of benefit programs available to association members. After the program, there was time to explore the mill as well as enjoy networking over delicious appetizers. Thank you to the Hawley Silk Mill for hosting the chapter! Northwestern Chapter The Brewerie at Union Station was the meeting spot for the Northwestern Chapter in October. Melissa Bova, PRLA’s vice president of government affairs, was on hand to provide the latest news from Harrisburg and answer questions about the issues affecting the hospitality and tourism industry. Philadelphia Restaurant & Hotel Alliance Correction: We incorrectly listed Bistro Romano as a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in the Fall 2017 issue of Restaurant & Lodging Matters. Since 2010, Bistro Romano has received the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence, including 2017! What makes a restaurant great? Food journalists Michael Klein from the Philadelphia Inquirer, Danya Henninger from Billy Penn, and food- writer Drew Lazor shared their thoughts about the Philly food scene during a great panel discussion moderated by long-time Philadelphia Inquirer food columnist Rick Nichols. Don Pearse, distributor broker and sales development manager at Ecolab for Sysco Foods Philadelphia was honored by the Penn State Hotel and Restaurant Society and the Penn State School of Hospitality during its 2017 Alumni Awards Reception. Don was awarded in the Emerging Professionals-Undergraduate category.
