26 • PENNSYLVANIA RESTAURANT & LODGING matters • Spring 2018 MEMBER MILESTONES Berks-Schuylkill Chapter The Berks-Schuylkill Chapter held its first meeting of 2018 at the Inn at Reading. John Longstreet, PRLA president & CEO, gave an insider’s view at what’s going on in Harrisburg and Washington, DC. Thank you to the team at the Inn at Reading for hosting. Brandywine Chapter The Brandywine Chapter kicked off its 2018 chapter meeting schedule with a Legislative Roundtable. State legislators from Chester and Delaware counties joined chapter members for an informal conversation about the issues important to the hospitality and tourism industries. Thank you to Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant for hosting and providing appetizers and beverages. Way to go! Victory Brewing Company partnered with 93.3 WMMR’s Preston and Steve for Camp Out for Hunger. Working with 39 local beer distributors, bars, and restaurants to establish drop-off locations including their own taproom locations, Victory began collecting canned and other non-perishable goods on November 1. At the end of the month, a total of 8,027 lbs. of food had been collected plus a $5,000 monetary donation was made. Camp Out benefits Philabundance, Delaware Valley’s largest hunger relief organization. While this was the first time Victory participated in the annual Camp Out for Hunger, employees have participated in Victory Volunteer Days working at the Philabundance warehouse. Bucks-Mont Chapter Wheee! Sesame Place will include a new roller coaster this spring. Oscar’s Wacky Taxi is a wooden-steel hybrid coaster themed after Oscar the Grouch for little thrill seekers. Philadelphia Parx Casino has opened two new restaurants: Lombardi’s, an iconic Manhattan-based Italian eatery, and The Liberty Bell Gastropub, an elaborate American sports bar and restaurant. Central Chapter Game on! The Central Chapter’s February meeting was “a little business, a little education, and lots of fun,” according to Chapter President Bryan Reichelt. After a presentation about the PLCB Licensee Online Order Portal (LOOP), the group enjoyed several games of cornhole while sipping special new brew provided by the host venue, Appalachian Brewing Co.—Mechanicsburg. Happy Anniversary! Stocks on Second celebrated its 20th Anniversary on February 9! Congratulations! Dave Marrone was recently promoted to Regional Vice President of Operations for the Lehigh Valley Restaurant Group-Red Robins. Dave is on the Central Chapter Board of Directors. Keystone Chapter The Penn Stater Hotel & Conference Center was the host of the Fourth Annual Pennsylvania ProStart Student Invitational. The event brought together 12 teams for two distinct competitions— management and culinary—that showcase the most important skills needed on either side of the restaurant and foodservice industry. State College said goodbye to the iconic All-American Rathskeller in late January. The bar had served Penn State students, alumni, and town residents for 85 years. Lancaster Chapter At its February meeting, more than 20 Lancaster Chapter members had an opportunity to sit down with their state-elected officials and talk about current legislative issues. After the roundtable, legislators and chapter members enjoyed complimentary appetizers provided by host AmishView Inn & Suites.
