4 The Oregon Surveyor | Vol. 42, No. 6 From the PLSO Chairman Shawn Kampmann, PLS Chairman of the Board MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN What PLSO needs the most help with from my perspective is more involvement from our members in order to maintain a healthy, viable organization. This is an issue with many volunteer organizations, where a minority of members, do the majority of the heavy lifting to keep it alive. I’m imploring all of you to try to find some capacity, even in the smallest way, to help prevent burnout from our tired volunteers who keep going year after year without relief. Being a chapter officer, whether President-elect or secretary, really isn’t as onerous as one may think. W inter has officially arrived here on this late November day in southern Oregon as I begin my last letter as your 2019 Chairman, win- ter’s breath blowing snow horizontally across the window, bringing a preview of what lies ahead. Come January, your incoming PLSO Chairman Jeremy Sherer, will take the reins of our professional or- ganization accompanied by Chair Elect, Tim Fassbender (who’s been to this rodeo a few times before), leading our incoming Board in pressing our goals ahead into the next decade. This year we’ve closed out our rebrand- ing effort with a fresh, modern look and feel, a new logo and completely revamped website that has been thoughtfully laid out and much easier to navigate to all the links to anything related to our pro- fession. If you haven’t checked it out yet please take a look, we’ve had many pos- itive comments and I think that you’ll be impressed. Our primary goals this year have included brainstorming ways to boost membership to replace losses through the attrition of our aging, veteran retirees, as well as By Featured Conference Speaker Shawn Kampmann, PLS Lecture: Thursday, Jan 23 at 10 AM
